Educational Excellence is a core value at Epsom Primary and Nursery School so that we can equip our children with the social skills and academic ability they need to be able to make choices in their future lives.

Fundamental to that value is the pursuit of good attendance, good behaviour and solid academic results for each and every child.  At Epsom Primary and Nursery School we monitor Behaviour and Attendance every week and share this with the children for discussion in assembly.

We feel it is important to share these results with you too so you can see how we are doing, so you can review your child(ren)’s class(es) and work with them to ensure their individual results are the best that they can be.

Attendance

It is important that all children have a high (regular) attendance at school so they can continue to learn alongside their classmates so they all follow logical development of learning topics and activities. Evidence shows that children with a lower level of attendance achieve less well than those whose attendance is high.

At Epsom Primary and Nursery School we actively encourage good attendance and we review this with the children in a weekly assembly where we congratulate the classes with the highest attendance levels (%).  We believe encouraging pupils to focus on attendance means they see the value in being part of a good and successful team - their class.

We track and update attendance on a weekly basis.  This graph is shared with pupils in assembly every Monday afternoon by Mrs Smith. We have rewards in place for weekly attendance, termly attendance and yearly attendance. Click back soon for data on this half-term profile.

Behaviour

Our weekly behaviour graph helps to raise the children's awareness of behaviour standards across the school. The children are shown the graph in assembly and asked to identify the classes with the higher percentages (%) as they have received a low number of steps (Steps - are points that represent poor behaviour). These classes are congratulated on their high standard of behaviour.

The children are then asked to identify the classes with a high number of steps and therefore a lower percentage (%). These classes are asked to explain why there has been a high incident of steps during the week and the children are asked what could be done to improve this the following week.

SATS

In primary schools SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) tests are given at the end of year 2 (KS1) and year 6 (KS2).

SATs help teachers – and you - learn more about your child's strengths and weaknesses. Teachers can compare how well each child is doing with their peers, both in their school and across the country. They can also measure how much each child improves from one Key Stage (KS) to another.
