At Epsom Primary and Nursery School we have additional specialist staff and resources enable us to support families where English is an ‘Additional Language’, helping children to achieve alongside others in our community.

We are proud of our families’ willingness to share their native skills and information on home cultures with us throughout the school year, for it is this that cements our inclusivity and feeling of belonging.

Language of the Month

In school we celebrate our diverse community by having a "Focus Language", the language has its own assembly that focuses on key phrases that enable everyone to learn the basics.

These are practised in class and are shown on our displays.

We aim to have 2 Focus Languages each term, for 2015-16 the languages are:

• Arabic

   

• Bengali

   

• Chinese Mandarin / Cantonese

   

• French

   

• Lithuanian

   

• Greek 

   

EAL Buddies

To help new children who join our school, where English is not their first native language, we have an EAL Buddie Scheme.  Our Buddies have been chosen by their teachers for always be kind and welcoming.  They all wear a special "Buddy Badge"
